What is a Tempo Run?
Everyone has their own tempo pace. It’s comfortably hard for you in your current condition.
In terms of effort, tempo is 6 to 8 on a scale of 10.
You’re at your tempo pace if you can easily say “Pace OK?” but can’t have a conversation.
Benefits
Tempo runs improve overall endurance, mental toughness, and the ability to sustain a challenging pace.
Thursday Nights at the Basin
Regulars lead us on the available routes from 3 to 7 miles.
Our tempo speeds range from 8- to 15-minute miles.
A few run faster than tempo, aiming for the “threshold” pace they could sustain in a race for about an hour.
But tempo runs are really about cruising below that threshold.
Bottom Line
We make sure everyone is in a group running their desired speed and distance.
